The Lowdown
Hallockville Turns 50 🎉
Sound Avenue is peaceful now, rolling farmland and historic barns. But rewind 50 years and the vibe was very different.
Back in the '60s, local potato farmers were over it. Tired of digging spuds, they sold off land for what was supposed to become the Riverhead Harbor Industrial Park. When that flopped, the Long Island Lighting Company swooped in with a bold new idea: a nuclear power plant. Yup.
Enter the Hallocks.
Instead of cashing out, the Hallock family held on. In 1975, they teamed up with neighbors to form Hallockville, Inc., saving their family farm and stopping the bulldozers. That same year, Sound Avenue became a designated state Scenic and Historic Corridor, and the nuclear dreams fizzled.
Fast-forward to today: Hallockville Museum Farm is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a new book A Farm Family on Long Island’s North Fork by Hallock descendant Richard Wines.
The farm looks like it did over 100 years ago, and thanks to the whole Hallockville crew, Sound Avenue still feels like a drive through time, with no smokestacks, and way more charm.

A Plum Island Story 🎥
Greenport filmmakers Thomas Halaczinsky and Petrina Engelke are about to drop a documentary that’s part mystery, part history lesson, and all heart. The subject? Plum Island, that 840-acre slice of secluded land just off the North Fork that’s been everything from sacred ground to scientific stronghold.
The island’s resume is stacked: once home to the Montaukett people, later turned into a high-security research center for animal diseases, and now… its future’s up in the air. With the Plum Island Animal Disease Center slated to move to Kansas (no, seriously), the question looms: what’s next?
The filmmakers want to make sure it’s not condos or neglect. Their nearly-finished documentary tells the story of Plum Island’s wild past and makes the case for its preservation as a national monument.
You can follow the project (or throw a little support their way) at: archipelagoproductions.tv/plumisland.

To kick things off, NoFoDoCo is serving up a limited-edition Birthday Cake Doughnut, available through Sunday, June 8. It’s colorful, festive, and every bit as delicious as a party doughnut should be.
The main event takes place on Saturday, June 7, when the shop will celebrate its official 7th Anniversary. The first 77 customers who spend $35 or more in-store will receive an exclusive NoFoDoCo beanie, a fun keepsake to mark the occasion and stay cozy in style.

Foodie Friday 🍽
Sometimes the best detours are the unplanned ones. We were cruising through Jamesport when a sweet tooth struck, clearly The Treatery was calling us. We figured we’d pop in for a quick bite. Twenty minutes and four cookies later, we were officially hooked.
The Treatery 🍪🎂
We stopped into The Treatery in Jamesport thinking we’d just grab a little something sweet. Spoiler alert: we walked out with four cookies, and it took every ounce of willpower not to turn right back around for more.
Here’s the lineup:
Chocolate Chip – Classic done right. Golden edges, gooey center, and generously studded with melty chocolate chips.
Peanut Butter Chip – Soft, nutty, and just salty enough to keep you reaching for another bite.
Oatmeal Raisin – Cozy and nostalgic, with warm cinnamon and plump raisins that made it taste straight out of grandma’s kitchen.
Triple Chocolate – Rich, fudgy, and decadent without being too sweet—a brownie in cookie form.
Each one was soft, thick, and perfectly baked. Honestly, they weren’t cookies, they were experiences.
If the name sounds familiar, that’s probably because The Treatery was just featured in the New York Post, spotlighting owner and baking genius Christina Padrazo, the go-to cake boss for celebs like Hannah Berner, Paige DeSorbo, and Amy Schumer.
Now, we might not be on the A-list, but we do have Christina and her incredible team making our wedding cake, an almond cake with vanilla buttercream and raspberry jam filling. (Try not to drool.)
If you find yourself anywhere near Jamesport, do yourself a favor and stop in. Just don’t be surprised if you leave with more than you planned.
