Southold Town is putting the finishing touches on its proposed $65.94 million budget for 2027, and Supervisor Al Krupski is determined to keep spending below the state's tax cap.
The proposed budget represents a 2.79% spending increase over 2026, with property taxes expected to rise 2.87%.
Town officials have met with every department head to review expenses and are considering additional cuts, including a $250,000 service line. Councilwoman Jill Doherty is also advocating to preserve funding for the town's ongoing sidewalk improvements. ($)

After years of bouncing around Riverhead, the Riverhead Farmers Market is finally putting down roots at Hallockville Museum Farm.
Starting November 7, the market will take over the newly renovated Naugles barn on Sound Avenue, bringing together roughly 30 local farmers, food producers, and artisans under one roof.
Shoppers can expect everything from fresh produce, meats, and cheeses to sourdough bread, homemade baked goods, mushrooms, coffee, and handcrafted goods. And yes, there will be samples.
The market will run Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM through April 24, with a special Sunday market on December 6.

Animal of The Week
Meet Roscoe. At 9½ years young, Roscoe has officially reached that wonderful stage of life where he's figured out what really matters: good company, a little love, and a comfortable place to call his own.
This handsome American Foxhound mix is a total sweetheart with a heart to match those adorable looks. Roscoe gets along great with people and other dogs, making him a wonderful companion for someone looking to add a little extra love to their life. He's the kind of gentleman who knows what he likes and appreciates having his personal space respected. For that reason, he'd do best in a home with older children who understand his boundaries.
Roscoe may have a little gray around the muzzle, but that just means he's had more time to perfect the art of being a good boy. At 9½, he deserves a loving home where he can enjoy his golden years surrounded by people who adore him.

Your brain deserves more than scrolling and skimming. Each week we’ll hit you with one question designed to make you pause, scratch your head, and maybe argue with whoever’s sitting next to you. Think of it as a quick mental pit stop: a chance to flex your random knowledge, test your memory, or finally use that obscure fact you learned in 7th grade.

Local Spotlight
The Town Wants Feedback 🗣️
Running a business on the North Fork isn't always as easy as the scenery makes it look.
Between finding reliable employees, rising costs, limited workforce housing, and the challenges of operating in a seasonal economy, local business owners have plenty on their plates.
The Southold Town Economic Development Committee wants to hear about those challenges firsthand. They've launched their 2026 Annual Business Survey, a quick, 14 question survey designed to better understand what's making life difficult for businesses in Southold Town and the Village of Greenport.
From staffing and parking to zoning restrictions and opportunities for growth, the feedback will help the committee identify where changes are needed and advocate for policies and funding that actually support local businesses.
Own or operate a business in Southold or Greenport? Set aside 10 minutes to share your thoughts. It's a small investment of time that could help shape the future of our local business community.
