New leadership in Greenport šŸšØšŸ“š

/

The Greenport Union Free School District just scored a powerhouse superintendent—Elizabeth "Beth" Doyle is officially on board as of March 5, 2025.

Doyle took an unconventional path to education, starting out in banking and finance before making the switch through the NYC Teaching Fellows Program. Now, she’s bringing that expertise and passion to Greenport, where she sees the school as more than just a place for learning—it’s a community hub that strengthens the village.

She’s got the resume to back it up, too. Doyle spent over four years as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction & Accountability at South Country Central School District and previously served as principal at John M. Marshall Elementary in East Hampton.

The Greenport Board of Education sifted through 33 candidates before selecting Doyle—so you know they did their homework. With her diverse background and fresh perspective, the district is in good hands.

Backyard Chickens šŸ“šŸ„š

Think raising backyard chickens will save you money on eggs? Think again. Wayne Meyer of Long Island Poultry says the startup costs—chicks, coops, feed, and upkeep—add up fast, making homegrown eggs pricier than a quick grocery run.

Plus, the avian flu has hit hard, driving up both egg prices and making baby chicks harder to find. Bottom line? If you’re thinking about getting into the backyard chicken game, do your research first—it might not be the budget hack you were hoping for. ($)
