Nameless Writers Salon Returns ✍️

The North Fork’s coolest literary night is back, and it’s bringing some serious star power. The Nameless Writers Salon, dreamed up by artist Kara Hoblin and author Matthew Daddona, kicks off its third season on Tuesday, November 18, at Sound View.

This month’s theme? Appleseed: The Core of What Makes Us Human (Or What Poisons Us).

The lineup is stacked:

  • Marlon James: Booker Prize winner and author of A Brief History of Seven Killings

  • Isaac Fitzgerald: bestselling author of Dirtbag, Massachusetts

  • Nicholas Boggs: literary critic and author of Baldwin: A Love Story

  • Emily Flouton: award-winning short story writer featured in The Atlantic and Tin House

Hosted by Daddona himself, the evening promises original works that challenge, unsettle, and illuminate.

Flapjacks for Field Trips 🥞

Oysterponds fifth and sixth graders are trading pencils for pancake turners at a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Poquatuck Hall.

All that syrup and butter goes toward something big, a May trip to Washington, D.C.

This isn’t just any field trip. It’s a decades-long Oysterponds tradition that took a pandemic pause but is officially back. Students will tour the Capitol, Treasury, Smithsonian, and (fingers crossed) the White House. They’re also adding a stop at Mount Vernon and the Spy Museum, because who doesn’t want to sneak a peek at some top-secret history?

This year’s trip includes both fifth and sixth graders for the first time, and will now happen every other year, giving future classes more time to fundraise. ($)

Veterans Day Wedding Giveback 🇺🇸

The East End’s sweetest tradition hit lucky number 13 this year, the Veterans Day Wedding Giveback returned to Brecknock Hall on Sunday, November 9, celebrating the marriage of U.S. Coast Guard Lieutenant Kelly Dacimo (of Orient) and Nicholas Vivo.

Every year, Peconic Landing and Brecknock Hall gift one deserving military couple a dream wedding, complete with all the local love. Florists, bakers, brewers, photographers, caterers, you name it, they pitch in to make the day magic.

Fall Planting Season 🌿

At first glance, Downs Farm Preserve looks like it’s calling it a year, tall grass, cracked milkweed pods, and not a single bloom in sight. But Taralynn Reynolds from Group for the East End sees something else entirely: prime planting season.

Why plant in fall? Cooler temps and steady rain help roots grow deep without the stress of summer heat. By spring, native plants like milkweed, oaks, and golden zizia are ready to take off, and outcompete the invasives.

Blanc & Franc 🍇

Long Island Wine Country is hosting its first-ever Blanc & Franc Summit on Thursday, Nov. 14 at RG|NY, and it’s all about celebrating two rising stars of the North Fork: Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc.

Expect a little education, a lot of tasting, and maybe a new favorite wine.

The panel’s packed with local legends: Roman Roth of Wölffer, Russell Hearn of Suhru & Lieb, and Vanessa Price, Today Show sommelier and author of Big Macs & Burgundy. Leslie Merinoff-Kwasnieski of Matchbook Distilling Co. will moderate.

This week’s lineup is peak East End:

🌻 Helen’s Farm: where produce glows, and flowers pop.
🎃 Krupski’s Farm: pumpkins, squash, and decorative corn.
🏨 Jedediah Hawkins Inn: a Victorian beauty where history meets hospitality and the dinner menu’s just as impressive as the architecture.
