Tech Timeout Continues šŸ’»

More than a week after a cyber attack hit town systems before sunrise on Nov. 24, computers are still down and police officers are writing reports by hand like it’s 1987.

Email? Toast. Decades of digital records? Locked up. Town Hall crews spent Thanksgiving break scanning machines and unplugging anything that beeped, but Supervisor Al Krupski says there’s still no timeline for when things will be back to normal.

The good news: 911 and emergency services are running just fine. The less good news: officers are handwriting tickets, calling dispatchers to run license checks, and generally doing everything short of dusting off a typewriter.

The county and state have stepped in with loaner laptops and printers, but email outages mean that if you need Town Hall, you’ll want to pick up the phone or show up in person. ($)

Greenport’s Holiday Stroll šŸŽ„

Greenport is gearing up for its own Hallmark movie moment. The Greenport Holiday Stroll returns Dec. 19, bigger and brighter than ever, after its smash hit debut last year.

What started as artist Kara Hoblin’s dream to bring some life to quiet winter nights has turned into a village wide celebration. Last year’s 30 participating businesses have grown to 45+ shops, galleries, and restaurants, all staying open from 5–8 PM with holiday specials.

This year’s major upgrade? A street closure between The Menhaden and Aldo’s, complete with propane fire pits, outdoor seating, and festive installations.

Families can grab an event booklet and bingo card at Harbor Front Inn, collect stamps, win prizes, maybe even score a free night at the hotel. The Mitchell Park carousel will spin for free for kids under 12, the blacksmith shop will open for demos, Santa will be at the schoolhouse, and pop-up markets will be tucked into indoor spaces around town.

North Fork Face šŸ’„

North Fork Face isn’t just a makeup studio, it’s a confidence-boosting, community powered little haven on Front Street. Owner and self taught makeup artist Anastasia Damalas opened the space in April with one mission: help people see the beauty she already sees in them.

But North Fork Face isn’t just for wedding parties. Damalas offers event makeup, BYOB get ready sessions, and even personalized makeup-routine coaching. Her three part routine reset includes a consultation, a shopping trip to Ulta or Sephora to find your perfect shades, and a hands-on lesson back at the studio.

Animal of The Week

Meet Louie šŸ¾

Louie is a ridiculously handsome grey tabby with soft stripes, softer vibes, and the kind of gentle patience that could win awards. When you walk into the room, he’s not the cat climbing your leg or shouting for snacks. Nope. Louie just sits there with those big bright eyes, politely waiting for you to notice him.

And when you finally do? Cue the instant sweetness. This little gentleman leans in like, ā€œOh hi, I’ve been here the whole time just loving you from afar.ā€

Louie doesn’t push. He doesn’t demand. He doesn’t compete. He’s the cat equivalent of the quiet friend who listens, nods, and somehow makes your whole day better just by being there.

If you want a calm, gentle, heartbreakingly sweet companion, Louie’s your guy. Someone just needs to give this soft-striped sweetheart the spotlight he deserves.

Trivia Time 🧠

Your brain deserves more than scrolling and skimming. Each week we’ll hit you with one question designed to make you pause, scratch your head, and maybe argue with whoever’s sitting next to you. Think of it as a quick mental pit stop: a chance to flex your random knowledge, test your memory, or finally use that obscure fact you learned in 7th grade.

Answer: Snoopy

66% of you got it right, the other 34% it’s fine. Snoopy forgives you. Eventually.

The Last Duck Farm šŸ¦†

This week’s Dan’s Talks podcast spotlights a true Long Island original: Doug Corwin, owner of Crescent Duck Farm, the last remaining duck farm on Long Island. Once a defining industry of the region, duck farming has nearly disappeared, but Crescent has survived thanks to Corwin’s deep passion and constant innovation.

Dan Rattiner digs into how Corwin has managed to keep the farm thriving despite strict environmental regulations, soaring real estate pressure, and even a bird flu outbreak this year. It’s a behind the scenes look at a storied agricultural legacy, and the man determined to keep it alive.
