Water Worries 🚰

This Saturday, Oct. 25, the Orient Association is diving deep into one of the North Fork’s biggest concerns: what’s really in our water?

At Poquatuck Hall, locals can learn what’s happening beneath their feet during the Orient Water Forum.

Orient’s homes and farms still rely on private wells for drinking water. But rising seas and “forever chemicals” like PFAS have started to seep into those systems. Nearly half of tested wells in Orient had PFAS levels above state limits.

The forum follows a major Water Resources Study released this summer by the Orient Association and CDM Smith, a global firm that knows a thing or two about Long Island’s hydrology.

The Menhaden Does It Again 🗝️

For the second year in a row, The Menhaden in Greenport has snagged a Michelin Key, one of just 317 hotels in the entire country to earn the honor in 2025. Oh, and it’s still the only one on Long Island.

What’s the key mean? Think of it as Michelin’s gold star for hotels, celebrating places that nail design, service, and that hard-to-describe magic that makes you never want to check out.

To celebrate, The Menhaden’s rolling out a Michelin Package, complete with Disset Chocolate keys, local sparkling wine, and late checkout.

Shellabration Takes a Breather 🦪

For the first time in over a decade, Greenport’s Shellabration, is taking the year off.

Organizers from Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Marine Program and the Greenport BID say the decision wasn’t made lightly. After 13 years of slurping, sipping, and shucking through the first weekend of December, the beloved shellfish fest has simply gotten too big for its shells.

The plan? Take a year to reimagine Shellabration so it better fits the village’s size and supports local shops instead of overwhelming them.

But don’t hang up your oyster knife just yet. Little Creek Oysters and The Hold Fast Fund are planning a replacement weekend celebration kicking off Friday, Dec. 5. ($)
