Handbag Wingo ❤️
On August 1, Kait’s Angels is hosting the 10th annual Designer Handbag Wingo at Peconic Bay Vineyards. Think bingo, but with way better prizes, like a Gucci bag and sunglasses grand prize. Doors open at 5, games start at 6:30.
This beloved event was born out of heartbreak. In 2014, Kaitlyn Doorhy’s life was tragically cut short at just 20 years old. The North Fork community was devastated.
So her parents, Darla and Joe Doorhy, did what North Forkers do best. They turned tragedy into love. Kait’s Angels was born, a nonprofit dedicated to helping local families in crisis, honoring Kaitlyn’s legacy of kindness and compassion.
Ten years later, they’ve helped countless people. From supporting children battling illness to lifting families after unimaginable loss, Kait’s Angels shows up again and again with generosity and grace.

Rescue Mission in Orient ⛵️⛈
What started as a peaceful boat day for a Connecticut family turned into a scene straight out of a survival movie.
On July 3, a surprise squall rolled through Orient. Think: sideways rain, whitecaps, and wind that made you regret not double knotting your shoelaces. One family from across the Sound found themselves stranded, soaked, and seriously in trouble on the open water.
Enter the heroes of the hour: Betty and Marko Nichols (plus their daughter Lina), longtime Orient locals and now, unofficial coast guards.
The Nichols crew spotted the floundering boat and jumped into action, navigating choppy water and 40+ mph gusts to bring the stranded family safely back to shore. Once docked, they didn’t stop at just the rescue. They offered warm clothes, hot showers, and probably some much needed moral support.
No big deal, just saving lives before dinner.($)

Local Girl, New Name, Big Sound 🎶
Marina DeLuca, or as the music world now knows her, Marley Hudson.
She grew up in East Marion, crushed it in the Greenport High band, and once picked up the bass to help out her boyfriend’s band... and never really put it down. Fast forward to today? She’s living in Brooklyn and chasing the folk music dream like a boss.
Her big “aha” moment came at a Paul McCartney concert. Surrounded by thousands of people all singing the same song, she realized: This is it. This is what I want to do.
With a little help from local music legend Greg McMullen, a few open mics, and a whole lot of courage, she left her steady job to go all-in on music. She's now gigging under the name Marley Hudson.
Yes, she still has a day job. No, she hasn’t stopped dreaming. And yes, you should absolutely give her a listen. ($)
