The Weathered Barn Story 🛍️

Rena and Jason Wilhelm are the dynamic duo behind The Weathered Barn in Greenport, a dreamy little concept shop that smells as good as it looks.

Their story starts in 2008, when Rena was laid off and decided to try something totally different. A pop-up holiday bazaar turned into a full-time gig, and by 2011 they landed in Greenport. The name “The Weathered Barn” came a few years later, but the vibe? That’s been there since day one.

Step inside and you’ll find:

  • Locally made bath and body products (crafted right in the store, you can literally smell the candles from half a block away)

  • Thoughtfully chosen goods from 10+ local and global makers

  • Collage art made from beach found treasures

The Catamaran with a Cause ⛵️

The Impossible Dream, a 100% wheelchair-accessible catamaran, made its sixth annual stop in Greenport last week, part of its summer voyage from Miami to Maine, offering free sailing trips to folks with disabilities.

On June 27, the crew took out:

  • A group from Johanna’s Hope, which supports kids with developmental disabilities and chronic illnesses

  • Local residents with spinal injuries, joined by aides from Peconic Landing

Coolest part? Sailing is totally free, and the nonprofit runs on donations only. So if you want to keep the dream afloat, head to theimpossibledream.org to support the mission. ($)

Zerdem vs. Greenport ⚖️

Zach Erdem, the flashy restaurateur behind Southampton’s 75 Main and HBO’s Serving the Hamptons, is suing the Village of Greenport and Mayor Kevin Stuessi for a cool $45 million. Why? He says they shut down his new restaurant, Zerdem, twice in its first week back in June 2023 and not because of the food.

Bernardo Bolanos, the former village code inspector who issued the original violations, is also suing. He says the mayor told him to enforce the code only against Zach while letting other businesses slide.

Dog of The Week

Meet Draco 🐾

Meet Draco, 2 years old, 100% Deaf, and 110% heart.

Draco’s early life? Kinda ruff. Picked up by animal control three times and left behind on the third. But plot twist, this dog thrives under pressure. Since coming into rescue, Draco’s been busy learning sign language, making four-legged friends, and charming every human with his treat-loving grin.

He’s smart (especially when treats are involved), loves playing rough-and-tumble with other dogs, and is always ready for a game of chase or a cuddle after a long day of fun. Don’t let his Deafness fool you, Draco is tuned in, eager to learn, and ready to connect in the most heartwarming ways.

-Knows basic signs
-Great with other dogs
-Endless energy
-Certified treat enthusiast

Draco is searching for a forever home that matches his energy, patience, and zest for life. If you're ready to be this sweet boy's hero, and maybe learn a little sign language along the way, come meet Draco.
