The Lowdown

Tea Time Anytime šŸŒæ

Ever wanted to sip on tea made from your own backyard? Now you can. Growing your own herbal tea garden is a low-effort, high-reward way to make your garden smell amazing and keep your mug full.

Kirsten Kesicki of Yard Crop says tea gardens are the chillest kind of gardening, beautiful, low-maintenance, and full of purpose.

Here’s what to plant:

  • Yarrow – Smells like licorice, helps with digestion and hormones.

  • Lemon Balm – Citrus-scented stress reliever and sleep booster.

  • Calendula – Basically sunshine with anti-inflammatory powers.

  • Echinacea – Immune system hype girl, sore throat soother.

  • Mint – Fresh, peppy, and needs its own pot (it’s a bit clingy).

  • Lavender – For calm vibes and a cup of floral heaven.

  • Lemon Verbena – Antioxidant-rich and big on lemon flavor.

Pro tip: most of these herbs love full sun and a little space to drain. Snip often to keep them growing and steep your way to herbal bliss all season long.

Art with a Side of Empowerment šŸŽØ

There’s a powerful new exhibit at the Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport and it’s got feminist fire. ā€œPassing the Brush: Feminist Art NOWā€ runs through May 11 and was co-curated by library art curator Sally Grant and local eighth-grader Hannah Quigley (yes, you read that right—eighth grader).

The show features works from North Fork icons like Arden Scott, Kara Hoblin, and Deborah Feingold, plus stunning contributions from Shinnecock Nation artists Denise Silva-Dennis and Lisa Bowen. Also in the mix? The UK-based ā€œDomestic Dusters Projectā€ with embroidered cleaning cloths that tell stories of domestic life and gender roles.

It’s thought-provoking, beautifully curated, and a must-see. Pop in, get inspired, and maybe bring your daughters, sisters, moms—or hey, your sons and brothers too.

Greenport Rally šŸ“£

Rain didn’t stop the rally. On Saturday, April 5, umbrellas popped and ponchos zipped as hundreds of North Forkers from Greenport, Shelter Island, and Southold showed up to Mitchell Park for a soggy but spirited protest.

The event was part of the nationwide ā€œHands Offā€ movement, an alliance of civil rights groups, women’s rights orgs, and labor unions pushing back against the policies of President Donald Trump.

Between chants and rain drops, speakers urged the crowd to stay loud, stay engaged, and keep those emails to Congress coming.

The vibe? Fired up, soaked, and ready to mobilize. ($)
